Privacy Policy

Selector is a record-collection companion, currently in a closed, invite-only alpha. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short and specific — no dark patterns.

Who we are

“Selector,” “we,” and “us” refer to the team operating the Selector application. Because Selector is in early alpha, this policy may change as the product evolves; we'll update the date above when it does.

Information we collect

• Discogs account data. When you log in with Discogs, we access your Discogs username and the collection data you authorize — releases you own, your wantlist, and ratings. We never see or store your Discogs password; authentication is handled through Discogs OAuth.
• Contact details you give us. If you request access, we store the email address and any optional details (Discogs username, how you heard about us) you submit, so we can manage the invite list.
• Your activity in the app. Plays you log, mini-game outcomes, ratings, set-building, and similar choices. These feed your Selector Score and personalize your experience.
• Technical data. A single encrypted session cookie to keep you logged in, plus basic server logs (e.g. errors) needed to operate and secure the service.

How we use your information

• To run the service — sync your collection and keep you signed in.
• To compute your Selector Score and surface recommendations, connections, and insights across your records.
• To write changes back to Discogs (such as ratings) only when you ask us to.
• To communicate with you about your access and the alpha.
• To diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve the product.

Third-party services and data sources

To enrich your library and power features, Selector exchanges data with third parties. We share only what a given feature needs.

• Discogs — collection sync and optional write-back.
• MusicBrainz, Wikipedia / Wikidata, and Last.fm — artist, album, and personnel metadata. If you connect Last.fm, your scrobble history informs your score.
• YouTube — optional track previews.
• Anthropic (Claude) — AI features such as cataloging from a photo, BPM/key lookups, and listing copy. Content you submit to these features may be processed by this provider to generate a result.
• Supabase and our hosting provider — database, storage, and application hosting.

Cookies

We use one essential, encrypted session cookie to keep you authenticated. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Storage, security, and retention

Your data is stored in our managed Postgres database (Supabase). Sessions are held in encrypted cookies, and privileged keys never reach your browser — all data access happens server-side. We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to operate the alpha, and we remove it on request.

Your choices and rights

• Access and correction. You can review and change most data directly in the app or via Discogs.
• Disconnect.Revoking Selector's access in your Discogs settings stops further syncing.
• Deletion. Ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time (see contact below).

Children

Selector is not directed to children and is not intended for anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

We'll post any changes here and update the “last updated” date. Significant changes may also be communicated by email.
